Responding to the Environment Secretary’s statement on the SNP government failing to meet its emissions targets, Scottish Labour’s environment spokesperson, Claudia Beamish MSP, said:
“That we face a climate emergency and the government is failing to meet its emissions target is a stark reminder that we still have a long way to go to meet our net zero ambitions.
“We need real action, not just rhetoric from ministers.
“Emissions from transport, the heaviest emitter of all, are still on the rise yet the government has blocked Scottish Labour’s plans to strengthen low emission zones at every turn.
"And all policies need to be poverty proofed, to protect those on the lowest incomes from the first and worst impacts of rising emissions.
“It’s time for the government to get real and ensure we meet our targets to protect our planet for future generations to come.”
