Thousands of patients have had to wait of more than 12 weeks for treatment despite the Health Secretary vowing to cut waiting times, new statistics reveal.
A total of 23,229 patients have had to wait longer than the legally guaranteed 12 weeks in the first three months of 2019.
Just 68.4% of patients were treated within the promised timeframe in this period, down from 75.6% in the same quarter last year.
SNP Health Secretary, Jeane Freeman, said in October that her improvement plan was ‘decisive action that will deliver results for patients and for our NHS.’
Scottish Labour’s health spokesperson Monica Lennon MSP said:
“Thousands of patients are having to wait far too long for treatment.
“These waits are leaving patients in pain and causing stress for them and their families.
“The Health Secretary promised to deliver results for patients with her improvement plan in October.
“The only results she has delivered so far is a worsening of performances and more patients left in pain. “It’s clear our NHS is simply not getting the resources it needs under the SNP to give patients the care they deserve.”
