Labour candidate Johan Adamson has attacked the SNP’s obsession with separatism branding it as parochial and anti-progressive.

Speaking in Lerwick Ms Adamson said that whilst she agreed with Nicola Sturgeon’s desire to send Boris Johnson packing, she could not accept that this is only applied to Scotland, as ordinary people across the UK were desperate to defeat the Tories.

Ms Adamson said that many people in Shetland value the achievements of the British Labour movement such as the NHS, comprehensive education and devolution and do not wish to see that movement wrecked by the SNP’s focus on Scotland to the exclusion of the rest of the UK.

To Ms Adamson it seems strange that some progressive people in Scotland should be “pulling up the drawbridge at a time when victory for a socialist Labour government is a real possibility."

Ms Adamson said, “The prospect of a Corbyn government is exciting for ordinary people across the UK, and is so much more progressive than the blinkered vision of the SNP”
